Gong Meditation Saturday, February 27th at 6 pm

A gong meditation is an opportunity to bathe in the healing resonant sound harmonics that a gong creates. Gongs embody the universal sound & basic chordal structure of the eternal AUM. The physical sound vibration of the gong is powerful and soothing, invigorating & relaxing all at the same time. This is a non denominational experience; all that is needed is an open mind and an open set of ears. The result is that these sonic, mystical characteristics provide a vehicle for quieting the mind & body.

."When meditation is mastered, the mind is unwavering like the flame of a lamp in a windless place." -Bhagavad Gita, 6:19

Meditation Class Series 6 weeks Donation based Saturdays 5:30pm

People often think of meditation as a person sitting passively, cross-legged with their eyes closed, but meditation is much more. Meditation is an active practice of clearing your mind towards inner peace.

Inner peace, sounds nice and soothing right? -but how can one find inner peace when the average person is so busy? In today's world we all are pushed and pulled in different directions, but in reality the benefits of mediation, even for just a few minutes will create profound changes in our lives.

It may start out simply, but staying with our breath and continuing to come to our meditation practice is not simple. Our minds are filled with "to do" lists, past regrets, and everything in-between. Our mind is like a balloon in the wind, blown away with every external situation. When good things happen to us, our thoughts are positive, when challenging things happen, our thoughts turn negative. These fluctuations in our minds happen because we allow the external things in our lives to influence how we feel internally. We allow other to steal our peace.   Like a child given a new toy, they are joyful, but when their little brother breaks their new toy, that joy is broken too. By practicing meditation, we learn to control our reactions to the external world and gradually develop a mind that is content no matter what the situation is. With this ability to control the reaction of our mind, we can find inner peace known as Moksha-liberation and Nirvana-bliss.

Meditation is a practice, not a perfection. It is the practice of returning to your meditation repeatedly that gives you the benefits. Wearing the comfortable clothes and lighting the candles is fine, but in the end, it is the practice of returning to meditate that allows you to clear your mind and be at peace.

Classes will be donation based classes. Benefiting the Chicago Buddhist Vihara. Classes begin Saturday January 9th and will go through Febuary 13th. Practice begins at 5:30pm at TriBalance Schaumburg

Schedule:

First Week

Introducing what the Meditation is:

Meditation is as a strategy of cultivating the mind. In the world we live, communities think that they can find happiness, inner peace and harmony through wealth power and social states. They also seek happiness through family relationship, jobs, partners, friends and sensual pleasure. They try to change the external conditions of their physical, social and political environment in various ways, because they believe that when these conditions are developed, they can become happy and peaceful. But they forget that conditions will stop changing no time. Even before the fulfillment of their dreams, things will change and the promise of happiness fades away like the morning mist at daybreak

Second Week

Benefits of meditation.
Meditation helps you to get rid of tension and to find relaxation. Meditation calms you and helps you to find peace of mind and discovers how to deal with negative emotions. If you are a person who has endless problems, meditation can help you to develop courage and strength to face and overcome them realizing the mental states.

Third Week

Recognizing the mind
Though the mind cannot be seen as it has no physical form, we can sense what it does. It feels, perceive, form mental formations and mind. These mental activities are not spontaneous. Mind actives through the sense faculties and if the sense faculties can be guarded the mind can control.

Forth Week

How to meditate?
Just sit. Stop thinking and look at your mind. Recognize what is the feature of your mind the things you have in your mind. See the mental activities and let your body to be relaxed and. See how the mind relaxes automatically. Then let your mind to stay in that state and see if there will be distractions. Recognize the mental distractions and learn to discard them.

Fifth Week

Two types of meditation.
There are two types of meditations revered for ages. Oldest one is Samatha or concentration meditation.

Vipassana meditation is the method which cultivates the skill of seeing things as they are. If we see the reality, mental defects, five hindrances can over come.

Sixth Week

Recognizing the mental defects:

Five hindrances, ten fetters, three taints, four perversions

"Meditation brings wisdom; lack of mediation leaves ignorance. Know well what leads you forward and what holds you back, and choose the path that leads to wisdom." -Buddha

Nutrition & Yoga

The basic principle of nutrition, from the yoga perspective, is to eat small quantities of high quality foods. The high quality foods are those which promote the life force of the body without producing toxins. The recommended foods are fruits, vegetables, whole grains and nuts.

Yoga's principles of nutrition are very similar to what modern science has discovered in more recent times. Nutrition and yoga compliment each other well. Both are designed to nourish the body, mind and spirit. We are as different on the inside as we are on the outside. Since nutritional needs vary from person to person there is no such thing as a "one-size-fits-all" nutritional program. We will create a custom program for each individual according to their blood type, environment and health and lifestyle concerns. Nutrition is not just about food, it is about living a lifestyle that promotes wellness. This approach to health will also incorporate fitness, yoga, and meditation.

Clients can expect major changes to occur in their understanding of their body as well as in their attitude, energy levels and weight. Together we create a personalized sustainable nutrition program that includes supplements as well as cooking with whole foods. These changes can create a dynamic shift in lifestyle, relationships, career and self-esteem. We offer a comprehensive nutrition program that detects health problems that are beginning as well as ones that already exist. Our tests determine what nutrients and vitamins your body is deficient in, if your current supplements are working and what harmful toxins exist within your body. We use blood, hair analysis and a personal consultation to help us gather this information. Our tests are performed by doctors so most insurance companies fully cover our programs.

Through awareness you will create a balance within yourself that will not only positively impact you but all those around you. Stop in today.

We will create the optimal nutrition program for you. Our nutritionists will consult clients across a wide spectrum and are trained to address:

  • Fatigue
  • Cholesterol
  • Food Allergies
  • Poor Digestion
  • Digestive Concerns
  • Chronic Illness
  • Sleeping Problems
  • Detox
  • ADHD
  • Stress
  • Menopause
  • Eating Disorders
