Yoga Etiquette
While there are no rules for yoga, there is a good code of etiquette students follow out of respect for their studio, teachers and fellow students and for their personal development. Here are some easy ways you can help to promote harmony in the studio.
Please honor the student teacher relationship. As your yoga practice matures, you will begin to find what appeals most to you with respect to different styles. You will also experience different viewpoints in teaching methods from the yoga teachers you come in contact with. You will on occasion run into different approaches to seemingly identical postures. Experience these approaches with a beginner’s mind. Allow yourself to be open to these suggestions and approaches, and with that experience decide what’s right for you. Yoga is for everyone, but not every yoga style is suitable for everyone.
Leave your ego at the door. It is good to challenge yourself on and off the mat with respect to your body. Keep ego out of your yoga practice and only advance when it is agreeable to the body. It does not matter where you think someone else may be in their practice in comparison to you. You are all in the same place you are all on the mat sharing energy and finding balance
Please honor and respect other students before and after class with your silence in the studio. Many students use this quiet time to meditate and work on silencing the chatter in their heads. . If you would like to chat before or after class please move to the one of the seating areas.
Personal hygiene is an integral part of practicing yoga. Strong perfumes and body order may be distracting to others. Take a quick shower before class if you need one. Please ensure that you and your gear are clean. Taking a shower or bath after class refreshes the body and mind.
Notify the teacher of all special conditions and or injuries. Listen to your body, challenge when able but rest when needed. It is important not to force yourself into any posture. Please remember to always work at your individual level. Understand that you mind and body will feel different everyday. As you practice asana respect your body for that day. Take your time and build your practice slowly. Always let your teacher know if you are feeling any pain or discomfort in a pose, this is your responsibility.
Please stay in the yoga room once class begins. It is fine to leave class to go to the bathroom: There is no need to ask the teacher's permission. The best time to go is when there is a period of rest or between postures.
Your final relaxation is an important part of your practice. If you must leave class early take some time to relax in Savasana before you leave. After completing the practice of asana, allowing 10-15 minutes for Savasana will help remove fatigue.

A Corporate Wellness Program That Works
| Chronic stress wears you down day after day and year after year, with no visible escape. Under sustained or severe stress, even the most well-adjusted person loses the ability to adapt. When stress overwhelms our coping resources, our bodies and minds suffer.
What are the sources of your employees stress? Personal/home life, long hours, environmental issues, poor air quality, work overload and poor health are only small number of reasons for stress in the workplace. Obesity, tobacco use and stress are the most common hazards to health in our society today. In addition to the direct harm they cause to individual wellness, they also provoke many indirect issues related to health care. Wellness Programs for employees are essential to the long-term viability of all businesses. Wellness programs are designed to prevent illness, disease or premature death through behavioral and organizational change. Studies have shown that having happy, healthy employees increases productivity and morale, reduces turnover, absenteeism and decreases health care costs. With rising health care costs, companies are seeking ways to offer preventive health care programs that ultimately reduce the high cost of health insurance. These companies realize that 70-80 percent of health care costs are due to lifestyle-related illnesses such as stress. One way to reduce stress is to implement a corporate wellness plan. It can be as simple as creating a relaxation room or having more water coolers, which will decrease the levels of dehydration. Stress is the body's response to the environment. It can be motivating or crippling depending on the person's health and stress coping skills. As stress increases, people may have difficulty concentrating, communicating and understanding what is being communicated to them. In the work place this can lead to: Lowered immunity, Depression, Anxiety, Poor digestion, Headaches, Insomnia and Restlessness. Government estimates suggesting that if people spent 30 minutes a day engaging in physical activity, it would save the US more than $8 billion a year in health care and related costs. This has become the focus for much advertising and promotional activity, highlighting the benefits of a healthy lifestyle. It's no secret that people are the greatest asset of any company. A healthy business grows and develops when the employees are healthy. A company reinvesting in their employee's health, is a sold investment. The corporation benefits by offering a wellness program to their employees two fold, by providing a wellness incentive as well as enhancing the employee/company relationship. Yoga is a holistic approach for reducing stress and instilling a sense of balance in one's work and personal life. Yoga unites the mind and body by performing breathing practices, postures and followed by a deep relaxation exercise. For office workers, yoga can help stretch out connective tissues in the wrists, hands, fingers, elbows, shoulders, neck, and back. All of these areas can stiffen up through repetitive motion. Additionally, all of an office worker's muscle groups can become very tense and create backaches, headaches, anxiety, hyper tension, and many more ailments. Life produces stress. The time crunches, the pressure, the pace and the general worries of life take a toll on people everyday. Studies have shown that 60% of lost workdays are related to stress and the body's inability to manage the onslaught. 91-Day Balance Program
| Health is a process; it's not an event. It is not something you all of a sudden have.
What have you done in the last 91 days that will impact the rest of your life? How long have you been telling yourself and others that you're tired or stressed or need to lose weight? How long have you been living with pain? What have you done about it until this point? The commitment: 39 classes in 91 days. Just 3 classes per week. (COMMITMENT - The act of binding yourself (intellectually or emotionally) to a course of action) The misconception most people have is that you need to exercise every day to be in great shape. If you'd exercised 156 times or just three days a week last year, you wouldn't have the same complaints you have now. Not only would you not have complaints, but you'd receive compliments about how healthy you look, how confident you are and how much energy you have. People would ask, "What is your secret?" And you'd reply that there is no secret, no short cut you've taken, no miracle pill or diet. When you make a commitment that, no matter what, you'll attend 39 classes in 91 days, your life will change forever. And others will notice. When you're healthy, positive, strong, confident, pain free and calm, the energy you radiate will impact everyone around you. Now is the time! The time to have balance in your life. Just three days, or 4.5 hours, a week will earn you a life that until now you have only dreamed about. |
