Beyond the Mat Yoga Class Tuesdays @ 6:30pm

Broaden your practice with breathing exercises, meditation, in-depth exploration of familiar asanas, approaches to more advanced asanas, and applying yogic philosophy to class and daily life. This class will feel like a workshop at times and material will vary from week to week; for deeper experience with breathing, alignment, hip openers, shoulder stretches, twists, core work, back bends or any combination.


You'll learn to integrate “beyond the mat” yoga into your daily life – these transformative experiences will take your practice to the next level. You do not need to be at any particular physical level, but you will need a solid frame of reference for this intermediate class. We recommend this for students with 6 months steady practice, or those in strong physical condition with at least 3 months steady practice.

Gabriel Halpern holds a BA in Philosophy, an MA in Health Psychology, and is a full-time, certified instructor trained at the Iyengar Yoga Institutes in San Francisco and Pune, India. An accomplished vegetarian chef and practitioner of kitchen sink mysticism, he loves cooking for family and friends, but prefers to have help, or company, during his culinary feats of daring do. Gabriel has practiced since 1970 and gives workshops nationally. For the past eighteen years he has been a core faculty member at De Paul University’s Theater Department. The fuel that motivates his vision for the immediate future is to re-invent himself as mentor and ritual elder.
